A homeowner looking to obtain a permit to build an ADU will need to follow the ADU Permit Process handout, which explain the steps needed to take a conceptual plan for an ADU through the submittal and review process.
How do I apply for a permit to build an ADU?
A completed Building Permit Application along with all items listed in the ADU Plan Submittal Requirements handout shall be submitted electronically to the Building Department through the City’s Citizen Portal Access website for plan check review. Plans may be reviewed by the Building, Planning, Engineering, Fire and OMUC (Ontario Municipal Utilities Company) Departments. An encroachment permit may be needed if the project is not a converted ADU. Once the plans are approved by all departments, the building permit is ready to be issued by the Building Department.
