The City of Ontario is pleased to announce the next citywide yard (garage) sale weekend is Friday, February 4, 2022, through Sunday, February 6, 2022. If rainy conditions exist on that Friday or Saturday, an alternate yard sale may be held on February 11, 12, and 13, 2022.

In 2010, the City adopted a yard sale ordinance giving residents the opportunity to hold more sales each year on fixed dates and eliminating the need for yard sale permits and fees. The Ontario Police Department has arrested suspect Nicholas Urrutia, who is believed to be responsible for a homicide that occurred at a bar in the 1200 block of N. Vineyard Ave.

On December 28, 2021, at approximately 12:30 AM, Urrutia and the victim engaged in an argument which escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, Urrutia stabbed the victim multiple times. Urrutia fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The Ontario Police Department has arrested suspect Ulices Lopez, who is believed to be responsible for a homicide that occurred in the 1100 E block of Highland Ct on December 24, 2021.

On December 24, 2021, at approximately 10:12 PM, Lopez was involved in a verbal argument with the victim’s stepfather during a Christmas gathering. During the verbal altercation, the victim was shot and killed with a handgun. The victim, Stephanie Gamez, a 20-year-old resident of Covina, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Ontario Police are investigating an assault in which a female was being held hostage by a man with a knife. While rescuing the female, an officer involved shooting occurred.

At 4:53 P.M. Ontario Police responded to the Quality Inn located in the 500 block of North Vineyard Avenue for a call of a possible shooting. The caller informed Police Dispatch that a female was yelling for help and possibly being held hostage by a male inside the room.

In an effort to reduce false alarms within the City of Ontario, the City has updated its Alarm Ordinance and collaborated with Phoenix Group LLC (effective July 1st, 2021) to implement and administer the False Alarm Reduction Program. The partnership will also provide educational training for our citizens.
