City of Ontario Announces Docent Recruitment At The Ontario Museum of History & Art

April 18, 2017

Help celebrate the City of Ontario’s rich history, art, and culture by becoming a docent at the Ontario Museum of History & Art. This year, the Ontario Museum of History & Art has introduced a new grant-funded water wise garden and new exhibitions that attract visitors to the Museum. Docents are instrumental in leading tours of these exciting new opportunities at the Museum.

The Museum is currently looking for volunteers to participate in the docent training program that takes place on Wednesdays from May 3 through June 21, 2017 (10:00 AM to 12:30 PM). Docents provide interactive group learning experiences through guided tours of the Museum’s art and history exhibitions and presentations at local schools and community centers.

No previous background in art or history is required, just a passion for learning and interacting with visitors. The ability to speak a language other than English is a plus. The benefits of becoming a docent include: building relationships with people who share a common interest, becoming an active participant in the community, learning from local experts about the history of Ontario, and taking behind-the-scenes field trips to destinations in and around the City of Ontario.

Docents play an essential role at the Ontario Museum of History & Art through their interactions with visitors. Docents have been key in providing tours for 2,500 students annually.

Join the information session, Share Your Love for the City of Ontario: Introduction to the Museum Docent Program, to learn more about the docent program on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Do you want to share your love for the City of Ontario and regional history with our visitors? Join the Museum for an opportunity to learn about the docent program before training begins later in May. Participate in a tour and brief presentation hosted by the museum curators and docents. Light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Reservations Required. Free Admission.
